One element of US201 is experiments with various media, at the root
of which are reading and writing. For any reading we do,
here are some specifics I want you to try (and make notes on using your
log pages):
- Identify crucial bits --the REAL message of the material (and
we'll find that people identify DIFFERENT bits)
- Try to locate the arguable: assertions that you don't
just accept as fact, but reserve judgement upon, or disagree with
- Identify places where you really wish the writer had said more
- Identify where you just don't understand, or where the author loses
you, or loses your attention
