Review Articles
It's very nice if a quick search of the index of the Annual Review of
... series produces what you need, but what can you do if it
doesn't? Several strategies:
- review articles often have relatively simple titles (where primary
articles often include a lot of specialized terminology), but then so do
news articles; the difference lies in the large bibliographies that
define review articles
- often the first paragraphs of a primary article will make
reference to one or more review articles, covering the general territory
for which the reported research is a specific example
- a few databases (notably Cambridge Scientific Abstracts in the
'Advanced Search' mode) allow you to
specify that you want review articles (PT=Review , or
DE=reviews in CAS)
- some review articles have the word 'Review' in their titles (so a
search in UnCover might be useful)
- the Trends in... journals, published by Elsevier, are a good
source, and you can search Elsevier's tables of contents.
To limit the search to the Trends
in... journals follow this slightly hairy procedure: choose AND,
use a search like 'pseudomonas AND trends'.
